🌊 Surfing Glory: Maddie Stanton Shines at US Champs Lowers

This past month at Lower Trestles, Encinitas’ own Maddie Stanton added another milestone to her young career. At just 15 years old, Maddie secured an impressive third place in the Girls U18 division at the 2025 Hoag USA Surfing Championships presented by Hurley.

The event, held in early July at the world-famous break renowned for producing surfing legends, drew the nation’s top junior athletes, all vying for a coveted spot on the podium.

In an electrifying final heat, Maddie faced off against some of the best up-and-coming surfers in the country. The final standings reflected just how tight the competition was:

🥇 Hana Bakker – Champion

🥈 Eden Walla – Runner-up

🥉 Maddie Stanton – Third Place

4️⃣ Avery McDonald – Fourth Place


Maddie delivered a final heat score of 10.80, showcasing her powerful turns and smooth style. She narrowly missed overtaking second place, where she needed a single wave score of 9.13, but ultimately locked in her spot on the podium with determination and grace.

Maddie’s performance capped off an incredible season, underscoring her growth as a competitor and her potential as a future professional contender. Her coach and supporters couldn’t be prouder of her focus and perseverance.
